March may be over, but DiWREKtor's Cut's celebration of women in film is not! This week we're honoring the movie we had originally wanted to do last week, Sofia Coppola's sophomore film - Lost in Translation. The story follows a young Scarlett Johansson and a not so young Bill Murray as they both play characters who's lives have taken them to Japan at the same time. Charlotte (ScarJo) is a young recently graduated and recently married woman in her early 20s whose husbands career has brought her on this trip only to leave her feeling isolated and alone. Bob (Murray) is a fading movie start whose career has left him doing talk shows and whiskey ads instead of making movies. When the two meet at their hotel, they form an unlikely friendship (with debatable romantic tension) and explore the theme of loneliness together. The soundtrack, Coppola said was meant "to be less like a score" and more like the dream-pop mixes Reitzell made to assist her writing of the film. And so it was released in 2003 with 15 tracks largely of the shoegaze and indie rock genre.
