This week on DiWREKtor's Cut we're doing some bridging across episodes and showcasing a film that is thought to be a response to last week's movie, Lost in Translation. So this week we're taking on Her by Spike Jonze! Starring Joaquin Phoenix and (the voice of) Scarlett Johansson, Her is a sort of futuristic tale about a Theodore Twombly, who at a tough time in his life turns to comfort in an artificial intelligence companion, Samantha, where he ultimately finds love instead. Provoking many interesting conversations about sentience and the capabilities of AI, this episode had a very philosophical tone with a score by Arcade Fire to back us up. Her won the Oscar at the 86th Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay, among nominations for 5 other categories. Whether or not this movie is response to Lost in Translation may be up for you to debate...but I'd say it's pretty clear.
