Today, I wanted to take a case study--that of "King of Karaoke", the 2000s karaoke staple from Eason Chan (he's also called The King of Karaoke!). This song references over 30 Cpop love songs in its lyrics and instrumentation as a parody of pop love ballads, but it's also a really interesting look into the influences and biggest hits of the style. Here, I've pulled out just 8 of the songs he references here. In fact, you might notice that I've played many of the songs referenced on the show before! As always, anything with a * is an unofficial translation. Don't expect to find anything if you look the song up with this!
