about usWREK is the student owned and operated Georgia Tech radio station, broadcasting 24/7 at 91.1 FM with 40,000 Watts of power into Atlanta's atmosphere, and streaming MP3 onto the Internet (running 14-day archive, too!) Please feel free to explore our site and enjoy quality, diverse programming offered through our specialty shows, sound blocks, sports and public affairs programming.
WREK HD2 ON AIR!We are very excited to announce the launch of our new HD subchannel, WREK Atlanta HD2. The subchannel is available to those with HD radios and to those without via live streaming on http://www.wrek.org (see the menu on the left). This new outlet for our programming allows us to air more Georgia Tech sports, public affairs, and other Georgia Tech related content, as well as more of the music you love even if you have never heard it before. The subchannel's format is under development and is currently an automated mix of all of WREK's formats. In the future, we will be developing new programming for the subchannel and a way to air programs that are pre-empted by sports broadcasts. In addition, we hope to provide the same web functionality for the new channel that we have for our main channel, including the two week running archive. This new technology is offering us many new opportunities to share great music and get the word out about the great things going on at Georgia Tech; we are just beginning to explore the extent of our capabilities. We would specifically like to thank the Georgia Tech community for their support in our upgrade to this new technology. All those who worked hard to set up the sub-channel and those working to bring this project to its full fruition deserve many special thanks as well. Without the support of the Georgia Tech campus and our wonderful staff, this would still be a dream. We would love to hear your ideas, comments, and any criticisms of the new channel; send them to comments[at]wrek[dot]org, and we will be sure to get back to you!

Transmitter Installed, HD Radio is GO!![]() ![]() WREK is now in HD Radio! We successfully installed the transmitter and turned it on Tuesday, March 25, at a little after noon. You can now also hear WREK Atlanta in crystal-clear HD Radio, also at 91.1 Mhz on your FM dial, as well as continuing to hear it in analog FM with even better sound quality. HD Radio is the most significant advancement in radio broadcasting since the introduction of FM Stereo more than 50 years ago. HD Radio technology enables AM and FM radio stations to broadcast programs digitally – a tremendous technological leap from the analog broadcasts of the past. It delivers FM stations, now with CD-quality sound, AM stations, now with FM-quality sound, crystal-clear reception with no audio distortion, and, most importantly, new channels to play more of what you like to hear. There's no subscription fee! Reception is free if you have an HD Radio. Thank you to everyone who helped us through this gargantuan project! Look here for more information in the coming weeks, as we work to introduce our new capabilities to ourselves and our listeners. Updates: An article on the delivery of the new transmitter.

wrek strategic plan 2007-2010WREK has been profoundly shaped by Georgia Tech and its student body. Founded by Tech students in 1968 as a noncommercial educational station operating in tandem with the Institute’s mission to educate and serve the public, WREK is run by students who exemplify the initiative, creativity, leadership, and engineering excellence that Tech nurtures. WREK wants to shape a future that envisions us as a leader among independent, student-run college radio stations. We will achieve this by keeping the station on the cutting edge of radio technology and positioning ourselves as an important and original source of ideas, information, and entertainment for both Tech’s campus and the growing public it serves. Check out our 2007-2010 Strategic Plan We want to hear your feedback! Send it to: comments@wrek.org
